I have always wanted to live simply, in nature, amidst a variety of landscapes. I’ve always wanted to live with self-reliance. I ‘ve always wanted to live tiny and I’ve always dreamed of a home on wheels.
In 2022 I embarked on this lifelong dream.
There are parts of modern society that never made sense to me:
-
- That we spend the best parts of our waking hours inside, often at a job that does not feed our soul, to support a home we rarely spend time in.
- That we are willing to spend so much of our life essence and income on rent or a mortgage.
- Status markers that cost our time and energy.
- Doing things that fundamentally do not give power to our own life.
And I contrast this with things I value:
- Hard work
- Responsibility
- Discipline
- Service
- Confidence
- Independence
- Bravery
- Freedom
- A Willingness to learn
- A willingness to suffer or be uncomfortable for a larger purpose
So, I decided to live differently, to embark on a path that allows me to practice my values. Some have called this “stepping outside of the matrix.” Others have called me crazy. I call this lifestyle, “hard work in service to freedom.”
And, it’s absolutely worth it.
For a year and a half I lived out of my 2013 Nissan Sentra that I converted into a car camper equipped with a twin size bed, office space, and fridge. I took my work on the road with me and traveled over 30,000 miles around the western United States.
In summer of 2023, I upgraded to a vintage, 27-foot, class-C RV. I’m on a slower-moving adventure now, where I am restoring and remodeling the old RV. I live in the woods, in the mountains, and in the desert. I work off-grid as a counselor, consultant, and writer.
