Meet ‘Ol Clunky
‘Ol Clunk is a 1991 Itasca Spirit with a Ford Chassis. She’s my vintage, clunky, funky, tiny-home on wheels.
When I was exploring upgrades, I considered everything from a minivan to a schoolie. However, as I explored the class-C, I realized it’s the perfect fit for me at this time. ‘Ol Clunk is a one bedroom home on wheels. She sleeps 5, has more storage than I can fathom, and has a comfortable space to work and cook.
I purchased this RV in August of 2023 and I plan to fix up mechanical items and needed coach-work, as well as do a full aesthetic remodel. So far, the additional space and comfortable living quarters have been incredible. While living out of my car was the first step on the nomadic adventure, having a true home-on-wheels is living the ultimate dream.
Meet Little Red
She’s a 2013, Nissan Sentra with a 6-speed manual transmission.
This car and I have been on many adventures together. We met on the East Coast in 2016, where we spent endless days driving along the highways of Southern Maryland. We strolled the Potomac, parked along the Chesapeake, and moseyed in the Appellations.
We found reprieve from DC traffic in the green rolling hills of Virginia and West Virginia. We’ve marveled at the power of Niagara Falls, admired the calm of Lake Ontario, and wandered along the Eastern Seaboard from Western Massachusetts to the Outer Banks in North Carolina.
Then we moved out west. We drove from DC to Michigan, crossed Lake Michigan on a ferry where we continued into Wisconsin and stayed in Minnesota for a while. We were moved to tears by the beauty of the Badlands as we drove through South Dakota, and marveled at Mount Rushmore.
We’ve been on many great adventures out west, primarily in the southwestern states of Arizona, Colorado, and Utah. We made our way to Nevada a few times, and had multiple trips to California to visit friends.
In 2022, this car and I upgraded our connection. This Little Red Chariot went from being, well, a car… to being an caR-V, a tear-drop, a teeny-tiny home. In 16 months we traveled 30,000 miles all over the west.
I have an affection for this vehicle in the way I imagine a cowgirl loves her horse. I love this car… and we take care of each other.
